GETTING THERE

Driving

If you are within driving distance of the University, check here for directions to the university campus:

Air Travel

For those flying to Minneapolis, use the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, which is about 15 miles from the U. of Minneapolis campus. There are a variety of local transportation options for getting there from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Check here.

Light Rail Transit: Metro Transit offers fast, frequent service between the airport, downtown Minneapolis, downtown St. Paul, and Mall of America.  Light-rail service is available at the transit station, located on the east side of the Blue and Red parking ramps. To reach the station, follow the Ground Transportation signs to the lower level, then take the tram. To board light rail, take the escalator down one level from the tram level and purchase your rail ticket from the machine. Continue down another escalator to the rail platform.  The Blue Line leaves the airport every 10 minutes during peak hours and every 10 to 15 minutes at other times of the day. Tickets are sold at ticket machines located at the rail station.

The stop nearest to the designated hotel is the Stadium Village Station.  The route is basically this:

- Depart from Terminal 1 Lindbergh Station, taking the Blue Line to U.S. Bank Stadium Station (at Minneapolis-Target Field) (20 mins.).

- Change at U.S. Bank Stadium, taking the Green Line from there to Stadium Village Station (10 mins.).

Including wait time for transferring, the trip will take about 40 minutes.  For more information, consult the Metro Transit website.

Buses: City bus service is provided by Metro Transit also. For bus fare and route information, call the 24-hour automated system at 612-341-4287 or visit the website (posted above).

Shuttles: SuperShuttle is a shared shuttle that costs approximately $20 per person.

Bus, van, and limousine service can also be scheduled.  Check here for some of these options.

Taxis: Taxi service from the airport is available for approximately $40-$50. A $6.25 fare will be displayed on the Taxicab meter when you start your trip. This fee includes a $2.50 "flag drop" fee and a $3.75 airport access fee. Use taxis and shuttle services that have the name of the company clearly marked.  Uber or Lyft is perhaps an option, but information about these services locally has not been investigated.  The costs may be similar to taxi service or somewhat less for shared rides.

Guest rooms for NLI/BOD participants have been arranged at the following hotel in Minneapolis, near the U. of Minnesota:

Guestrooms at the hotel have cable television, direct-dial phones, and air conditioning; rooms also include refrigerators, coffee/tea makers, and hair dryers. Days Hotel on University provides complimentary breakfast, high-speed Internet access, a 24-hour front desk, and complimentary parking.  Check-out the hotel here.

SNMA does not cover travel and lodging costs, nor does the National Headquarters arrange travel.  You must call the hotel directly to reserve a room.  When calling the hotel, identify yourself as part of the “SNMA Medical Student Group”.  The cut-off date for making hotel room reservations at the SNMA group rate is Friday, June 15, 2018.  You may still be able to get a room after the cut-off date, but there is no guarantee that the same rate will be offered, so if your travel plans are uncertain, it is better to reserve now.  There is a 48-hour cancellation policy.

Check-in time at the hotel is 3:00 PM.  Check-out is at 11:00 AM.  On Sunday, you will need to bring your baggage to the meeting location or ask the hotel Bell Desk to store it for you until you return for your departure.
