Welcome back to our Meet The Board Series!!

In this series, we would like to introduce you to the leaders of the national organization who work behind-the-scenes to keep the SNMA running!

Our next feature of this series is Janet Nwaukoni, who serves as an International Affairs National Committee Co-Chairperson for the 2018-2019 administrative year!

Email Address: international@snma.org

Hailing from Queens, NY, Janet Nwaukoni is a M2 at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Growing up in a loving Nigerian household, Janet was always encouraged to strive academically while mentoring those who came after her. With a lifetime passion to serve the Lord from a young age, Janet was active in her home church, Bethel Gospel Tabernacle, and played a large role in their Fine Arts department. Desiring to serve others in healthcare, after graduating Cum Laude in 2012 from Cornell University with a Biology degree, Janet worked as a Research Coordinator at the NYU Langone Medical Center. Understanding the in’s and out’s of medicine by enrolling patients in clinical trials, collecting biospecimens, and conducting visit assessments helped Janet solidify her interest in medicine. Although Janet had traveled on mission trips to over 10 countries, when she traveled with NYULMC to assist in creating a Lupus cohort in Accra, Ghana, she knew she wanted to make in impact in International Medicine.

Soon after, Janet was blessed to begin her medical career as a DO student at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. While there, she served as her chapter’s Co-President and continues to ensure active steps are taken towards increasing diversity and community involvement at PCOM. She strives to be an OB-GYN serving on an international governing body similar to The World Health Organization as well as start a non-profit organization focused on increasing international awareness within inner-city communities through funding trips and other service opportunities.  During her free time, Janet serves on the DOXA Worship team at Epiphany Fellowship. She also loves to sing, dance, and cook African food.

Be sure to stay tuned for the next feature of this series! And remember, make sure to visit us at snma.org/membership.php to join the SNMA if you haven't already!
