Meet the Board with Anthonia Ojo

Posted By Publications Committee, Monday, November 6, 2017

The 2017 SNMA Annual Medical Education Conference (AMEC) was held in Atlanta, GA on April 12th - 17th. It was at this convention that Ms. Anthonia Ojo was appointed to the position of Academic Affairs Co-Chairperson. At the 2017 AMEC, medical students and professionals gathered to attend a wide range of educational and networking events. It is consistently the largest gathering of underrepresented, minority medical students at any time of the year in any place across the nation.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
  • I wanted to be a teacher. I thought they were the smartest people I knew (after my parents).
What are some of your favorite hobbies?
  • You can usually find me at the gym, at a Les Mills BodyPump class. My other hobbies include running, bachata, and traveling.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
  • The ability to fly.
What’s your favorite thing about the SNMA?
  • My favorite thing about SNMA is the people and the network. The friends I have made in SNMA are some of the hardest working and most successful people I know. They are also humble and care very much about reaching back to help other students achieve the same success. I enjoy the community of love, support, and striving for excellence.
What is one of the ways that serving on the SNMA Board of Directors has impacted you?
  • Serving on the BOD has strengthened my leadership skills. I've learned to put ideas into actions in more direct ways. I have also enjoyed working with other members who are passionate and committed to the organization. We are able to accomplish great things and everyone in the room is always thinking of how to make SNMA better and bolder.
What goal(s) does the Academic Affairs Committee aim to achieve this year?
  • Our goal for this year is to expand our partnerships with board preparation companies. We are also trying to include some resources for post-baccalaureate medical education and professional development. We are excited about the work we are doing for AMEC educational sessions so stay tuned for that!
What skills would be useful to have if joining your committee?
  • Anyone who has ever studied for a test or looked for a scholarship has the skills to join and enjoy serving on the Academic Affairs Committee. Our activities focus on developing and maintaining resources to assist SNMA members in their educational endeavors. This includes building partnerships with board preparation programs, maintaining a resource for scholarships and academic opportunities, and assisting with regional and national conference education planning. Your input can be instrumental in guiding the success of SNMA members.
